To be eligible for funding, organizations and projects must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must be associations, groups, organizations, tribes, bands, partnerships or networks that are active within the Yellowstone to Yukon region and whose work supports the Y2Y vision and mission. Individuals wishing to apply must find an eligible organization to sponsor their proposal. There is no requirement for organizations to have charitable status.
- Only one proposal per organization will be accepted. However, we will accept more than one proposal from those organizations that have separate chapters or regional offices, as long as each chapter/regional office has its own budget and is responsible for raising part or all of its own funding.
- Collaborative or joint proposals from more than one organization working on the same project or initiative are encouraged.
- Priority will be given to projects that most align with the following eight points:
1) Take place within one or more of Y2Y's Priority Areas (please see the map at the end of this document);
2) Are undertaken by small grassroots groups and/or organizations that might not otherwise be able to secure funding for their work;
3) Will benefit significantly from Y2Y's investment;
4) Contribute in a meaningful way to Y2Y's vision and goals;
5) Focus on co-operative efforts;
6) Address urgent conservation threats or immediate conservation opportunities;
7) Focus on on-the-ground conservation actions, rather than research projects;
8) Include opportunities for communications to promote the Yellowstone to Yukon vision or change public attitudes; and
9) Serve as a model of effective conservation or communication practice in other parts of the Yellowstone to Yukon region.
- Organizations that have received a Y2Y Partner Grant for the past three consecutive years are asked to refrain from applying this year.
- As a U.S. 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a Canadian charity, Y2Y can only support projects that do not include direct lobbying/political activity components.
Grant awards will be limited to a maximum of $5,000. However, most grants awarded will be $3,000 or less.
