With tremendous strength and speed, moose can travel through almost any terrain. Their long legs allow them to easily step over deadfall trees or through deep snow. Their cloven hooves and declaws spread widely to provide support when they wade through soft muskeg and snow.

"During 30 working years as a professional mountain guide, pilot and cinematographer in the Rocky Mountains of North America, I became increasingly concerned with the many changes I witnessed. When National Geographic and History Television commissioned me to create a four hour HDTV documentary series I chose the Y2Y region as my central focus. My approach was not linear. I wove back and forth, from present to the past exploring the natural wonders, cultural heritage and future of the Rockies in a well-paced and sometimes controversial composite of visions. I drew on narrative from eminent scientists, adventurers, aboriginal elders, resource managers, conservationists and developers, all of whom live under the spell of the Great Divide. As a result, "Shining Mountains" has been translated into 12 languages and is being broadcast around the world in 32 countries. I am hopeful the series is giving its international audience a sense of wonder and stewardship in the future of wild places."
